HIL’s green building brand Aerocon includes panels for fast-track drywall substitution, AAC blocks, plywood substitutes and advanced polymer products such as pipes and fittings with True FitTM technology for leak-proof joints . Our Charminar brand is the established market leader in roofing solutions. And HIL’s durable HYSIL industrial thermal insulation finds a range of applications in energy-intensive industries. Alongside our products, we have a skilled technical support team that helps our customers benefit from solutions that use these products for maximum efficiency and effectiveness.
Our unique “five way green” philosophy ensures that our products and processes are environmentally friendly from end to end. We begin by choosing green raw materials with a low carbon footprint; and process them using a green manufacturing process that produces zero effluents, byproducts and emissions. We also have a green energy profile with 30% of our energy needs being met from renewable sources. Finally, our end products are also green, and can be reused and recycled for minimal environmental impact.
HIL is part of the CK Birla Group, a growing US$1.6 billion conglomerate that has a history of enduring relationships with renowned global companies. With over 20,000 employees, 24 manufacturing facilities and numerous patents and awards, the Group’s businesses operate in five continents.
Founded in 1946 with an agenda of supporting development and providing shelter to every Indian, HIL is today a leader in the domestic fibre cement industry and owner of the iconic brand Charminar. HIL is committed to building a strong and prosperous nation. For a firm that is as old as India, the seeds for serving society were sown in the DNA of the organization from its inception. HIL’s commitment to being a truly green organisation is demonstrated by our green products, and two CDM (Clean Development Mechanism) projects earning carbon credits (CERs), which have been registered with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC). One of our projects entitles us to about 35,000-40,000 CER’s per annum and the other about 11,000-12,000 CERs.
The Road Ahead
One of HIL’s most exciting transformation initiatives is Udaan; a programme aiming to drive excellence and enable an aggressive growth target. Daily activities and complex processes are being streamlined and tracked, leveraging a central “Udaan Tower” to enhance our performance across functions. The programme is already bearing fruit, and we have succeeded in gaining market share and increasing revenues despite a turbulent economy.
